The confettata is an Italian wedding tradition: a table or corner with confetti, sugared almonds, on display, often in jars and cake stands, from which guests take their share in little bags or boxes. It can replace the traditional wedding favour (bomboniera) or go alongside it.
It usually comes at the end of the reception, near the dessert buffet and after the wedding cake is cut. The caterer can prepare it, as a buffet set-up, or it can come from an outside supplier. At a venue with an exclusive caterer, check first whether you can bring it in.
What to ask
Ask whether the confettata is included or an extra, who sets it up and with what materials, and who provides the bags and boxes. If any guests have allergies, ask for the ingredients of filled confetti. The details are in the guide to wedding cake and confettata.
