How to choose pizza for an event in Rome

You have three options. Pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice) or pizza in trays delivered ready is the simplest and most affordable, suited to children's parties and birthdays at home. A pizza chef at home with an electric oven brings freshly baked pizza even to small spaces. A mobile wood-fired oven, mounted on a trailer or a van, is a spectacle for weddings, villa parties and corporate events, but needs outdoor space.

Choose the style too: thin and crisp Roman pizza, Neapolitan pizza with a high crust, pizza in pala (long pizza baked on a wooden peel) or pizza in trays. Ask for photos of past events and, if you can, taste the pizza first.

How much does pizza for an event cost in Rome

The price depends on the format (delivery, pizza chef with oven, wood-fired oven), the length of service, the number of guests and extras such as fried food, starters, desserts and drinks. Many pizza chefs with a mobile oven have a minimum number of guests or a flat fee for the first hours. Ask whether the price is per person, per pizza or per hour and what it includes. For the other items in a quote, read the guide how much catering costs in Rome.

What is needed on site

A wood-fired oven needs an outdoor space, flat and away from flammable materials, and time to heat up before the guests arrive. An electric oven needs a socket with adequate capacity: ask how many kilowatts are needed and check your electricity meter. In both cases you need a work table and access to water. If the party is in an apartment building or on a terrace, check the rules before booking the wood-fired oven.

Organise the service too: with lots of guests the pizza comes out in waves and queues form in front of the oven. Ask the pizza chef how many pizzas they bake per hour and consider serving them in slices, going round the guests with trays. That way nobody is left waiting and the pizza always reaches everyone hot and freshly baked.

What to ask before you sign

Have the format, hours of service, number of pizzas or pieces per person and toppings included put in writing. Ask whether they have gluten-free doughs prepared separately and vegan options, who brings plates and napkins and who cleans up. For another informal idea, see BBQ catering. Then request up to 3 quotes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a pizza chef at home cost in Rome?

It depends on the format, hours of service and guests; many ask for a minimum or a flat fee. Ask whether the price is per person, per pizza or per hour.

Can a mobile wood-fired oven be used in a garden?

Yes, if there is a flat outdoor space away from flammable materials. The oven has to heat up before the guests arrive.

How much pizza per person for a party?

It depends on whether pizza is the main meal or a snack. Tell the pizza chef the time and duration and ask for the recommended quantity.

Does the pizza chef make gluten-free pizza?

Some do, with separate doughs and preparation. For guests with coeliac disease, ask how they avoid contamination with ordinary flour.

Is pizza suitable for a wedding?

Yes, especially with a wood-fired oven for the drinks reception or the late evening, alongside the main caterer.
