Field kitchen

A temporary kitchen the caterer sets up when the venue lacks a suitable one: work surfaces, ovens, fridges, blast chillers, washing-up.

The field kitchen (in Italian, cucina da campo) is a temporary kitchen set up by the caterer in a service area of the venue: work surfaces, ovens, hot plates, fridges, blast chillers, washing-up and separate areas for dirty and clean. It is needed when the villa, country house or garden has no equipped kitchen, or when the numbers are too large for the one there is.

It makes cooking to order possible even in the middle of a lawn, but it has specific needs: a covered space, water, enough power (sometimes a generator), access for vans. Historic houses may have limits on flames, loads and times.

What to ask

Ask whether the field kitchen is included or a separate item, how much space it takes and how much power it needs. Show the caterer the venue's rules and arrange a site visit. Find out more in the guides to the villa wedding and equipment hire.
