Catering means preparing food and drink for an event held away from a restaurant: at home, in an office, at a villa, in a hall. It covers very different situations, from delivering ready-made platters to a service with cooks, waiters and set-up.
When the service also includes front of house, staff, table setting and running the timings, it is more often called banqueting. Many companies do both. That is why the name matters little: what counts is what the quote says.
How to choose
Before the price, check that it is compliant: health registration, HACCP food safety plan, allergen information. Then ask for a tasting and compare two or three offers with the same items. The method is in the guide on how to choose a caterer; ready-made questions in the one on questions to ask the caterer.
